You're Never Alone with Silver Companion

A warm telephone, letter writing, and face-to-face befriending service for older people in Swansea — because everyone deserves a friendly voice and a kind word.

Companionship that comes to you

Silver Companion CIC is a Community Interest Company based in Swansea, Wales. We match older people who are experiencing loneliness or social isolation with trained volunteer befrienders who provide regular telephone calls, handwritten letters, and face-to-face visits — bringing warmth, connection, and a sense of belonging.

How It Works

Getting started is simple. We do the hard work so that meaningful connections can happen.

1

Make a Referral

A GP, social worker, care professional, family member, or the older person themselves can refer via our simple online form or by calling us directly. We welcome self-referrals too.

2

We Find the Right Match

Our team carefully matches each person with a compatible volunteer befriender, taking into account shared interests, personality, and preferred communication style.

3

Regular Calls & Letters Begin

Your befriender makes regular telephone calls, sends handwritten letters, and may visit in person — providing consistent, caring companionship at a pace that suits the individual.

Something to look forward to in the post

There is something uniquely special about receiving a handwritten letter. Our volunteers take the time to write personal, thoughtful letters — and many of the people we support treasure every one they receive.

Whether it's sharing a story, asking about a favourite memory, or simply saying "I'm thinking of you" — a letter from a Silver Companion volunteer can brighten someone's entire week.

Face-to-face befriending

A Friendly Face at Your Door

Sometimes a phone call isn't quite enough. Our face-to-face befriending service pairs older people in Swansea with a trained volunteer who visits them at home — sharing a cup of tea, a conversation, and genuine human connection.

Whether it's a weekly catch-up, help with a short walk, or simply sitting together and chatting, these visits can make an enormous difference to someone's sense of wellbeing and belonging.

All volunteers are DBS checked and receive full training before visiting.
